The PEM® style SP™ nut is designed specifically for installation into stainless steel sheets. In addition to its hardness attribute, it also provides the same basic corrosion resistant qualities of 300 Series stainless. The original SP nut is identified by the PEM "Single Groove" trademark on the outside of the barrel. It is manufactured from a (magnetic) 17-4 precipitated hardened stainless alloy.

Most of the SP product being produced today is identified by a P E M / SP circular stamp on the top of the fastener. This nut is manufactured from (non magnetic) A286 stainless alloy utilizing forming manufacturing techniques.  This new process allows us to maintain our pricing structure and provide a better performing product. The new manufacturing process, modified design and different material gives this nut better installed performance and corrosion resistance qualities than its predecessor.

Please note the following two points with regard to published information in our catalog on installing this "stamped" version:

Raised ring anvil tooling should not be used to install this "stamped" product.  Doing so may cause sheet buckling or thread closure in certain applications.

In addition, if recessed anvil tooling is used for installing the "stamped" version, the unified punch dimensions shown in our catalog ( http://www.pemnet.com/fastening_products/pdf/ssdata.pdf) should be used for both unified and metric nuts.

For questions about this product change please contact your local PEM representative or click here to e-mail tech support.

Other PEM "stainless into stainless" fasteners include FH4 and SO4 (400 Series studs and standoffs) as well as Type FHP studs (made from A286 alloy.)
